Indian Veggies Burger
Burger is a favourite of everyone in my family. After coming to USA, it is difficult to find vegetable burger and that too the burger which suits Indian taste bud. I have prepared this vegetable burger many times in home. Instead of deep frying the patties, I usually shallow fry the patties in dosa tawa to reduce calories. The best thing about the home made vegetable burger is we can choose our favourite veggies and our  favourite dressing or sauce. Please check below for step by step instructions and pictures for preparing Indian Vegetable burger.

Yields : 4 Servings


Vegetable Burger

Ingredients:
Table 1: To prepare masala
Potatoes cooked and mashed
3/4 Cup
Carrot and beans chopped and cooked 
1/4 Cup
Oil
1 tbsp
Ginger and garlic finely chopped
2 tsp
Green chillies finely chopped
1
Onions finely chopped
1/4 Cup
Salt
Turmeric powder
1/4 tsp
Chilli powder
1 tsp
Coriander Leaves
2 stalks

Table 2 : To prepare veg patty
Oil               
4 tsp
Bread crumbs 
1/4 Cup
Maida / All purpose flour 
3 tbsp
Water
1/4 Cup


Table 3: To assemble burger
Burger buns
4
Onions cut into circle 
4
Tomato cut into circle
4
Any salad dressing
4 tsp
Lettuce
For Garnishing





Instructions:
To prepare vegetable patty : 
  • Heat Oil in a pan. Add finely chopped ginger, garlic and green chillies. Add onions, when the raw smell goes off. Fry till onions turns translucent.

  • Add cooked carrot and beans. Add  mashed potato and coriander leaves. Fry for 2-3 mins.

  • Add turmeric powder, salt and chilli powder. Mix well. Remove from stove. Add maida and water. Prepare a smooth paste.

  • Take a fraction of a dough and make a ball the size of a big lemon. Flatten the balls to 3-4 inches in diameter.Apply the maida paste on top of the patty and toss it in bread crumbs.

  • Heat dosa tawa. Apply oil and cook the patty till it turns golden brown on both sides. Repeat the process for remaining patties.

To assemble burger:
  • Take the bottom half of the burger bun. Apply your favourite sauce or dressing.Place the cooked patty on top of it. Place the onion circle followed by tomato.

  • Add chopped lettuce and close it with the top half of burger bun.

Tips:
Adjust chilli powder and green chillies to your taste.
Choose your favourite dressing or sauce.
Adding cheese while assembling burger is optional.

  1. Like the burger made from potatoes and veggies. In fact, I will adore the patties without the buns. But of course in the buns, loaded with more veggies and sauces splashed in, its a complete and heavenly meal.
